It has a tough die cast chassis and has been ergonomically designed to enable ease of carrying. If dropped overboard The <a rel="external nofollow" title="

Standard Horizon Hx851 Floating Handheld Vhf/gps Radio has been designed to float and its ruggedly constructed casing will actually glow in the dark to assist its retrieval from the water. It has also been designed to be submersible in fresh or salt water to a depth of 3 feet for 30 minutes, complying with JIS-7 and IPX7 standards. The HX851 has 6 Watts of transmit power and settings of 1W, 2.5W and 5W can also be selected to maximize the transmit distance and to conserve battery life. The HX851 has excellent loud-speaker audio and can be heard above engine and oceanic noise and this is achieved with 700mW of power supplied to the internal speaker. The HX851 VHF GPS marine radio has a built in 12 channel GPS receiver that enables the user to transmit a DSC distress message, report a position or to send calls with attached coordinates. The device now also has some very useful navigation functions that include the facility to enter and store waypoints (up to 200 waypoints can be stored). Using the device mariners are now able to navigate to a waypoint or to a DSC position request that has been sent to the HX851. The DSC function (Digital Selective Calling) includes distress, all ship urgency and safety, group, individual, position request and position report calls. As you would expect with a device of this quality 10 NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) US, Canadian and International weather channels are pre-programmed into the HX851 and these are easily selectable using the dedicated WX key. The device can also be set to monitor WX channels and emit an audible signal to alert the user of impending bad weather.

The device has an advanced full dot matrix LCD display that displays a crisp clear image. The display shows channel names, Radio/Position, Radio/SOG/COG, waypoint navigation, compass displays and volume and squelch levels (graphically) in a simple and readable format. A neat function is the preset key that enables the user to pre-programme up to ten marine VHF or NOAA weather channels. The HX851 actually comes supplied with named channels (16-distress, 22 A-USCG and 71 pleasure) but these may be re-named by the user to suit individual needs. The device can be setup to scan many different channels through its dual/tri-watch functions. If the HX851 is connected to an NMEA device GPS data becomes available to the unit. The HX851 comes supplied with AC and DC adaptors and a desktop charging craddle. The supplied Lithium-ion battery has a battery life of ?? hrs (in normal use). The HX851 is supplied with a 3-year no quibble guarantee and Standard Horizon promise to replace or repair the item if it fails during normal use in that period. Thereafter, the unit is covered by Standard Horizon’s Lifetime Flat Rate Service and Customer Loyalty Programs.

This high quality well equipped radio has a host of high specification features that make it a must for the serious mariner. The device features built in Class D DSC (Digital Selective Calling). This allows the user to send information when the distress button is selected and also constantly monitors channel 70 for incoming distress calls. If the device is connected to a NMEA compatible GPS system the device will show GPS and DSC information position data. Also gained if connected to an NMEA GPS system are position request and position report functions. The <a rel="external nofollow" title="

The front panel of the IC-M504 contains chunky user buttons and a large tuning knob that can be easily manipulated even whilst wearing gloves. The rugged waterproof housing ensures that the device is submersible to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and this complies with IPX8 standards. The device has an excellent receiver performance of 80db (typical) for inter-modulation rejection and adjacent channel selectivity. This means that the device is able to pick up a weak signal even between strong stations. The audio output power is also excellent and punches above its weight of 4.5W output power. This ensures that clear and crisp reception is heard, even above engine or other noise. Icoms Force 5 Audio ensures that the speaker built in to the IC-M504 produces excellent sound quality. A very neat feature of the Icom IC-M504 fix-mount marine VHF radio is that it can be connected to an external speaker or horn on the deck of the vessel and the user can then make an announcement via the radios microphone. As with most radios in this class the IC-M504 comes with a duel/tri-watch function and also has a weather alert function that provides alerts for any approaching bad weather and instant access to the emergency channels 16 and 9. The device receives all 10 NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather channels and has a useful TAG scanning function with simple add or delete options. For the security minded there is an optional voice scrambler (UT-112) that enables users to communicate privately. The IC-M504 comes with a 3-year manufacturers warranty.

Luckily, this indicates you can typically get a discounted cost on it, but what is it that makes the Quest such a unique unit? Why need to you decide on it over some of the newer models?

1. 1 of the main factors to select an older unit is that there is much less opportunity that there will be any remaining bugs in the unit. Typically when a brand new device is released, there are some minor, and often severe, troubles that should be updated and fixed. The risk of a recall on a “poor GPS unit” is quite actual on newer models.

2. Even though an older model, the Garmin Quest is a really advanced GPS program, excellent for those who do not want numerous the newer functions. It still does the basics like turn-by-turn directions, voice guidance to get you to where you must go, and its even rechargeable so you do not have to waste income on batteries.

3. Downloading maps is very effortless. Basically plug the unit via the included USB cable into your laptop or computer and you can download the whole line of Garmin maps to the device without having a dilemma. The unit can be utilized in your vehicle or standalone in your pocket Basically as some of the newer models can.

Although the Garmin Quest model GPS unit is older does not mean it is not the ideal answer for you. It gets you where you should go as any other unit would, and it will do it for much less costly than some of the newer units accessible. If you do not will need all of the bells and whistles and are searching for some thing basic, that is still potent, then the Quest is for you.CouponCabin
